Whether you have just started out as as writer, or you are an experienced writer but want to try a new niche, sounding confident or aiming to present a quality stuffed content seems to be daunting.

For a new niche, it may not be possible to finish a killer article in a time frame you took for a well-known niche. But it is definitely possible to compose a killer article, with an extra bit of research, time and patience.

Following the below steps will lead to a content which you will be proud of at the end.

Titles: Firstly, use Google to track down the finest blogs in the new niche. Eg: best blogs in lifestyle or blogs in digital marketing 2020.

So many articles will be showcased in each blog. But what makes a reader to open an article and read through it? Title.

On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.
— David Ogilvy

Learning how to write a title for an article is important to pull a larger audience. And write down the titles that captures your interest.

For example: “We did the impossible thing but not the hard thing”.

This is a title of a latest tech article from the blog, www.theverge.com. Personally, this caught my attention to read the whole article. There is no tech-savvy term in the title. It is simple yet intriguing. And the title looks inviting for even the people who are not interested in technology niche.

Research the article in and out: Now there will be handful of articles that has caught your eye, with its deceiving titles. Read those articles again and again. Google every new term and learn about it. Try to articulate in your own words for a deeper understanding.

By doing this, content ideas will come to you. Any sentence or any one term can lead you to generate a good content.

Don’t miss out on niche terminologies: The lingos and terminologies make the article trustable and strong. Not overplaying with it, is also important. Otherwise, there is high chance for the new readers to skip your article.

Make a dull niche, interesting: This is not for readers, but for you.

Even after a good research, some niches can be hard to generate content ideas. This will result in a dull content.

In such cases, picking up connecting niches to the main niche can solve the problem.

Example: When writing on food niche, we immediately think about recipes and healthy alternatives.

But, “A buying guide on kitchen items”, “Gift ideas for bakers” (the connecting niches) also fall under the niche-food. This way we can provide interesting content without the need of a cookbook.

In case of fashion blogs, other than How-to articles about styling for wedding occasion or packing for a beach weekend, ‘Smart ways to arrange a closet”, can also be written about.

Narrow down: The more you narrow done, the more convenient and easier it is for you to understand an existing article and to create a new article.

In a tech niche, technology >> mobile >> single brand (iPhone or Samsung) >> iPhone 12 >> 5G support

You can put down the advantages of 5G or its drawbacks

Or

You can compare the 5G connectivity of iPhone with another brand, say, Samsung

Or

You can follow a twitter handle of tech nerds and can write about their tweets about 5G.

Or

You can go into the story how 5G evolved inside the iPhone kingdom.

Another Example: In a spiritual blog, there is an article, “5 principles to lead a Buddhist life”. There you see the benefits of meditation.

When googling about meditation, there are different kinds of meditation and one among them is mantra meditation. Narrowing done! Now google about mantra meditation.

I, while writing this article googled about the mantra meditation and my idea generation was like this — My interest was more on its history. Why because, mantra, also known as prayer is already been followed in many religions.

Is mantra meditation same as prayer?

If yes, from prayer(mantra) came mantra meditation or the vice-versa?

Questions like this will surely come into your mind too when you brainstorm, and that is the start of an interesting article.

You can also use forums like Quora or Reddit, Facebook groups to capture the buzzing topics.

The comment section of blogs can reveal the pain points of the readers, which you can write about and resolve.

Breakdown and elaborate: Now that you are set with an idea, divide the whole content in your mind into sections for better clarity, flow and productivity. Otherwise, you may end up staring at the screen for a long time or you may feel like you are stuck in the middle of the forest even when you are aware of the destination.

Also, from a reader’s perspective, breaking into sections presents the content lightly and gives the privilege to skip any section and move forward.

Place your opinion: Always keep a space for yourself in every article to showcase your thoughts and opinions. This paves way to connect to the audience strongly, which is important for lead generation and who knows, may be some fan followers too.

Become the reader: Finally, read your article at least 2–3 times after a good break and ensure whether the content flows seamlessly and there are no flaws. Also check whether the headline aligns with the content you are delivering.

Allow a friend or your parent to read your article and get a review.

Conclusion: In whichever website I searched on how to start my writing career, “choose your niche”, was everywhere.

I did not feel confident on any niche. I felt impossible to get idea for an article. After a good 4 months, I came with this systematic step-by-step approach and now there is no second thought to write on a new niche. Try and get ready for anything.
